The air is crisper with fall around the corner and Whistler is still bustling with events to keep our guests entertained! Traditionally September has been known as the “Month of Pain” with extreme events that keep the active busy right through the month. However those who don’t participate in these grueling events still enjoy the energy and vibe of being a spectator; cheering on participants! And….if the extreme sports aren’t your scene then you should join us to celebrate Beer on September 14th! Yes, that’s right, a weekend of beer to break up the “Month of Pain!”
The month starts off with the Salomon Meet Your Maker, September 1st, a 50 mile ultra relay attracting guests from around the globe. Participants run through this unique course consisting of 90% single track trails with stunning views! Come cheer on those competing for cash prizes as they “Run to heaven…..and back!” Also on September 1st Whistler wraps up their popular Whistler Events concert series with a great lineup featuring Jeremy Thom, Current Swell and our local favorites Animal Nation and Ali Milner!
One of the west coast’s most popular biking events rolls into Whistler on September 7, where the third annual GranFondo takes place! Starting in Vancouver participants take on a 122km ride to Whistler along the famous Sea to Sky highway! Make sure you celebrate with riders as they cross the finish line at the Whistler Olympic Plaza and get in on all the post-event Celebrations.
To break up the intense sporting events we take a weekend to celebrate the art of Beer! This new Beer Festival celebrates the amazing diversity and talents of Canadian and Pacific Northwest brewers along with a few international selections. IPA’s, wheat beers, fruity beers and dark selections will all be options for you to enjoy! Take in the weekend and stay the week where you can indulge in beer tastings and samplings or special dinners complete with beer pairings throughout Whistler Village.
Now back to sports, where the weekend of September 29th ends the month with two events! The Whistler Spirit Run is a one day cross country trail and running event taking place in the Whistler Olympic park amongst the pristine Callaghan Valley! This event is fun for all ages and abilities and includes a family-fun run. Also this weekend the Escape Route presents the Rubble Creek Classic Cheakamus Trail Run a renowned event taking place since 1985! Starting early in the morning participants start by running up a grueling 1,338 meter climb. They then continue along Helm Creek Trail and through Cinder Flats boasting amazing views of Black Tusk and Garibaldi Lake. I’m sure with this intense trail run they could use a cheering team to keep them going so come cheer on these participants or register to be part of the fun!
Summer doesn’t end in August and Whistler keeps bustling through September! Come and run, bike, participate in an event or support those who are taking part in one! Indulge in some beer tastings or dining events and enjoy local entertainment. September is the month to visit and it’s sure to be a great time! Stay tuned for Events part IV where we tone it down a bit and feature our “Fall Festivals – Indulgence and a bit of Relaxation! “
